About the Trip

They say home is where the heart is. And we have uncovered the perfect places for you to feel at home. This week long experience is built exclusively around lovingly restored and maintained homestays in Sikkim (South) and North Bengal. Run by the warmest hosts you could hope to meet, they flourish in the benevolent shadow of the Kanchendzonga (as the Kanchenjunga is known to the reverent locals).

Your Hosts

Let’s start with your hosts.

You will meet a family whose elders built the local monastery and whose sons have forsaken the bright city lights to retain their unique heritage.

You will also meet a couple whose dedication has ensured that their property is as much heritage as it is home.

Last, but certainly not the least, you will be regaled by a man who, in his role as head of the Indian Army’s Northern Command, has explored every inch of the fascinating North East and is intimately acquainted with its people and their customs.

Now that you’ve meet the home owners of these homestays in Sikkim, let’s explore the homes. From a contemporized village home to a renovated traditional kothi to a lovingly restored Lepcha tribal farmhouse, you’ll get a firsthand experience of how different communities in this area live.

Don’t worry, there’s a lot more than just lounging about these beautiful homestays in Sikkim.

We’ve got walks through jungles that draw birders from the world over.

There’s a visit to Sikkim’s only monastery dedicated to the Bon faith as well as a pleasant hike up to a monastery that also offers breathtaking view of the Kanchendzonga range.

There’s some river rafting for you to have a feel of gorgeous Teesta.

Learn how to make momos that go perfectly with freshly brewed chaang, a beer made from the local black millet

Watch Tibetan artisans weave the carpets that will adorn your homes.

You can get involved in a local school that’s preparing tribal children to take their place in the outside world.

Food is perhaps the biggest reason your heart will stay here at these homestays in Sikkim even after you have left. You’ll start to feel the enchantment when you step out and pluck your own squash, tree tomatoes and Chinese lemons. And you’ll be completely entranced once you savour the divine food.

So don’t break your head the next time you want to travel to a place as welcoming as home. Instead, just breakaway.
