warm Goa
we love Goa

We are in love! with nothing less than a whole state. Who else but the gorgeous suntanned tropical Indian state of Goa.

In keeping with our lovestruck state in the seek&hide office this November, we have launched a social media campaign – We love Goa. There are plenty of insider tips on the best restaurants in Goa, shopping, beach hopping and sight seeing. We also shared a series of fun visuals on the reasons why we love Goa so much.

We know some of you do not yet follow us on social media. But we want to spread the word and share our deep and undying love for Goa with you. So we have consolidated all our insider tips for Goa in this post. But there’s one thing that you can access only through our social media channels, our contests. You stand a chance to WIN plenty of Goa themed goodies so follow us right now on Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus.

 Eating

On a quest for unusual food on your Goa holiday this winter? Look no further than Bomra’s in Candolim serving modern Burmese food. Bet you can’t find that in your city

Planning to try Burmese cuisine at Bomra’s in Candolim this winter? Our reccos are snapper with lemongrass, slow cooked pork belly, tea leaf salad, Bomra’s special drink. Book ahead for khao swe on Wednesdays only.

All ready with a ring and flowers to propose to your girl in Goa? We suggest you book a table at the very posh and pricey A Reverie in Calangute to ensure she says yes. Good luck!

You’ll find the best breakfasts in North Goa at Lila Café Baga and Baba au Rhum Arpora. Try the water buffalo ham, fresh breads at Lila café. The best pain au chocolate is at Baba au Rhum, also scrumptious omelets.

On the trail of the best Chicken Cafreal in Goa? Look no further than Florentines in Saligao. Also try the rava fried mussels & prawns. Warning: take only diehard foodies as the ambience is very basic but clean. Rock bottom prices. Open all year.

You disdain fancy cooking at fancy prices and would rather have a hearty big meal. Try the crab in butter garlic, masala crab, tandoori baby kingfish at Souza Lobo on Calangute beach in Goa.

Beach shack and stylish? Yes, that’s how we’d describe La Plage at Ashwem Goa. Everything is good here but we recommend beef carpaccio and the desserts. Combine this with a day out at lovely and quiet Ashwem beach.

Palacio do Deao in Quepem is a very special experience where you tour a heritage Goan home and then eat a specially prepared meal with traditional dishes not seen in restaurants. Advance booking is necessary here.

Finding it hard to be a vegetarian in Goa? If you are in South Goa, try Home on Patnem beach, by far the best vegetarian food around. Fabulous food with fresh local produce and great desserts.

We don’t need to tell you about Thalassa in Vagator since everyone makes a beeline for it including Bollywood celebs. Go early to catch the sunset and try the authentic souvlaki.

Activities

Patnem beach is a great alternative to Palolem in South Goa with an equally pretty but less crowded beach. And it’s close enough to hop back over for the nightlife.

Bored by lazing all day at the beach? Take a break and head into Sunaparanta Art Gallery in Altinho, Panjim for a dose of culture. Grab a coffee at their excellent café.

A 213 years old South Goa mansion built by a Portuguese noble man in an unusual style blending elements of Hindu and Portuguese architecture. Today Palacio do Deao is available to guests for a tour and a specially prepared meal. For more details, visit here

Want a piece of Goa on your walls? Nothing better than a Mario Miranda artwork to satisfy that desire. Prints start at Rs.500

The biggest private home in Goa is in a sleepy little village in South Goa. The 350 year old Menezes Braganza house in Chandor is full of treasures from around the word. Open to guests between 9 am to 5 pm. Please leave a small donation for the upkeep of the house.

For a day away from crowded North Goa, take a leisurely drive to Tiracol Fort at the tip of Goa for a long lunch overlooking stunning sea views. You can spend the rest of the day at very quiet Keri beach.

Zambhala Yoga Music Festival is known for its line up of well-known yoga teachers and uber cool vibe. This year it is in Morjim Goa this year. Dates are Dec 21- 22. You can book tickets here .

Shopping

Celebrity spotting + fine jewellery + beach shack sounds weird, doesn’t it? Jade Jagger, daughter of Rolling Stone Mick Jagger combines it all in her boutique on Ashwem beach in Goa. Open in season from Midday to 8 pm. Closed on Wednesdays.

Azulejos are a wonderful souvenir from Goa. They are traditional Portuguese style of hand-painted tiles. Find them with other treasures like Mario Miranda’s reproductions at Velha Goa, Rua de Ourem in Panjim.

Don’t miss the Arpora night market to experience the best of Goa shopping in one place. There are plenty of food stalls, tattoo places and music. From Nov to April, every Saturday from 7 pm onwards.

Anjuna flea market may be old news now but it is still a great bazaar to shop or take colorful pictures of the last hippies in Goa. Open from 9 am to sunset at Anjuna beach.

Mapusa Friday Market is a low key market where farmers and small entrepreneurs come to sell local produce. Good for seeing the non-touristy side of Goa. Open from morning to sunset outside the Municipal Market.
