Thursday, September 24th, 2015

Beach holidays are timeless. No matter what the season, a coastal retreat is always refreshing. If a beach holiday in India is on your mind right now, then there’s no better time than winter! When planning for a beach holiday in India, one is spoilt for choice, given India’s 7500 km coastline, which consists of a variety of coastal habitats such as estuaries, mangroves, coral reefs, etc.

Now choosing three out of these many options is not easy. But we’ve been there, seen them. And we can tell you that we chose the best beach holiday destinations for families. The names might sound familiar, but keep reading. Because we also list out all the family friendly activities at these amazing beach holiday destinations in India!

Perfect Beach Holiday, Goa

Goa boasts of a 103km long sparkling coastline on which a number of beautiful beaches are marked out. Emerald green waters and white sands make for great playgrounds for the kids, and relaxation is close at hand with lounge chairs and beach shacks serving food and refreshments right on the beach.

Shopping and entertainment in Goa: Some of the most famous among those beaches are Calangute, Baga and Candolim beaches.  Calangute is quite popular, and is located on the northern side of the state. It’s absolutely thriving and apt for a busy day of family outing. One can shop for knick knacks to souvenirs to beach balls and sarongs while stopping by for a meal of authentic Goan cuisine.

Aqua sports and Adventure in Goa: Goa has many options for aqua sports and adventure. From water scooters to wind surfing, and parasailing to diving, there’s something for every water-thrill-seeker. Not in the mood for an adrenaline rush? You can take a leisurely boat ride or a slightly more exciting speed boat ride.  Or start out in the morning and go see Dolphins – your kids will love this experience!

Marari Beach, Kerala

Despite being most renowned for the sparkling and idyllic backwaters, Kerala has a number of beautiful beaches as well.

Kovalam perhaps is the most famous of Kerala beaches.  It is the most developed of the local beaches and alike in many ways to Goa’s Baga beach – filled with activities and restaurants, along with the shimmering waves at the sea to accompany them.

Varkala and Muzhappilangad are equally impressive as well. While the former is one of the solitary beaches with stunning views, and all the privacy you would like, the latter is the only drive-in beach in Asia.

Marari Beach in Alappuzha district is a quiet little village (Mararikulam). Its absolutely idyllic location with gorgeous shorelines offering spellbinding views of sunrise and sunset. Varkala and Muzhappilangad are still lesser known than Kovalam despite drawing more and more people every year.

Another ideal location for a beach holiday is the Bekal beach, which is perhaps the most secluded spot with luxury hotels and historical significance – there’s an impressive fort to explore and keep the kids engaged.  These are some of Kerala’s best beach holiday destinations that you might want to explore this winter.

Andaman and Nicobar

Diving at Andamans

This group of islands barely need any introduction! Removed from the hustle bustle of the terribly busy city life, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are ensconced within nature’s palm – rolling green hills and fields, sparkling beaches, shimmering waves and clear blue skies stretching all over the islands, it is one of the best island getaways around. And for all you water babies, the Andaman and Nicobar offers a variety of specialized beaches each with its own kind of attractions for e.g. Radhanagar Beach in Havelock Island is a picturesque haven of tranquility and peace. Here you can take a leisurely stroll with your beloved while your children can explore their artistic talents by constructing the sand castles of their dreams; you can even take them snorkelling in the coral reefs for a unique experience. The Elephant beach at Havelock is a personal favourite of almost all who have been there, as here you can watch elephants train and swim around in the water, while partaking in a number of water activities like scuba diving, snorkelling and much more.

Whichever one of these beach holiday destinations that you choose, there’s one major perk of beach holidays that you are going to enjoy. Beach holiday destinations are the perfect getaways for all the water babies out there.  The sandy beaches are the unending playgrounds of their dreams and the waves allow them to splash about to their heart’s desire, the weather’s always good and the food always amazing. With all of these combined, beach holiday destinations no wonder make it to the top of the list for families everywhere.
